PAX South 2016 – Traversing the Cow Level: The Challenges of Gamers’ IRL (Tauren Think Tank Episode #175)

Panel Description: Being a gamer is AWESOME. But for some of us, not everyone understands us or the reasons we game. Have you ever felt like it’s necessary to explain or defend your love of gaming to people in your life? Why do we feel more comfortable surrounded by “our people” and it feels so rare to find them? In this panel, you’ll have the opportunity to talk with gamers who are experts in psychology, research, advice, community-building, and share experiences and challenges of being a gamer in the real world.

Podcast Description: Jules and Marconin were joined by Dr. Anthony Bean, PhD and Dr. Holiday Bean, PsyD for a panel at PAX South on Friday, January 29th. This is the audio version of our panel discussing gamer identity, why we feel different and excluded by people who don’t relate to the gaming culture and so much more. We talk about our experiences as gamers, relating to non-gamers, and what we can do to help people understand the gamer identity. We also took audience questions, and they delivered!

Thank you to everyone who joined us at PAX South!

Panelists: Dr. Carol Holiday Bean [Psychologist – Clincial], Corey “Marconin” Spencer [Podchaser], Jules Scott [Streamer, Twitter], Dr. Anthony Bean [Licensed Psychologist, Website]
