In the 1980s Nintendo’s threat to put Beam Software out of business nearly killed the Australian game industry. Yet Beam became one of the first western developers Nintendo accredited to make games for the NES, including Bad Street Brawler for the ill-fated Mattel Power Glove. Described by its programmer Andrew Davie as “less of a game – more of a parasitic host”, it is one of history’s most pilloried games.
